Wärtsilä main engines to South African research vessel

arrowWärtsilä will deliver the four main engines to a Polar supply and research vessel on order at STX Finland Oy Rauma shipyard for the Republic of South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs. The vessel’s crew will also be trained at the Wärtsilä Land and Sea Academy in Turku. The vessel will be powered by four 6-cylinder in-line Wärtsilä 32 engines and will have accommodation for 100 researchers and passengers in addition to the crew. Delivery of the newbuilding is scheduled for 2012.
